WELCOME TO THE DIVISION OF SOCIAL WORK WEBSITE

The Social Work Program at the University of Memphis is a Council on Social Work Education (CSWE) accredited Baccalaureate Program.  The Program is housed in the School of Urban Affairs & Public Policy (SUAPP) in McCord Hall and is part of the College of Arts & Sciences.  The goal of the Program is to train entry-level social workers for generalist practice. The Program defines "generalist social work" as a comprehensive orientation to all client problems, and a comprehensive approach to the range of client systems.  The Program prepares entry-level social workers for competency in a wide variety of problem areas, across a wide range of client systems, across diverse populations and using a broad theoretical base for practice, encompasses a comprehensive theoretical perspective as a foundation to explore the various systems that influence client's lives and to pursue additional areas of knowledge that will facilitate serving clients' needs.  The generalist perspective includes general systems theory and the ecological model, the general problem-solving model, crisis intervention, family systems, feminist social work, case management, research and evaluation, and policy and organizational analysis.
