Assistantships are available for students in the MA program. MA students serve as graders, tutors, or discussion leaders. Additionally, one MA assistantship is available as a proofreader for The Southern Journal of Philosophy. Assistantships are normally for a two-year period for students making satisfactory progress toward the degree.

The Philosophy Department application form provides a space to indicate your desire to be considered for an assistantship as part of your application. No additional forms are required.

Applications received after January 1
cannot be guaranteed consideration for
an assistantship for the upcoming academic year.

All funded students are required to fill out a Professional Development Log each semester and submit it to the department chair. These logs help us to document to ourselves and the administration our rigorous graduate program. Examples of professional activities include: attending research in progress talks, conferences (both within and outside of philosophy), reading groups, and professional meetings. A Professional Development Log form and sample are provided.
