Commander David R. Snow, U.S. Navy -
Commander David Snow was commissioned in September 1986 at Officer Candidate School in Newport, RI. His first assignment at sea was as a Main Propulsion Division Officer in USS SARATOGA (CV-60). During this tour he completed a six-month Mediterranean deployment as well as an extended shipyard overhaul period. Commander Snow's next assignment was again at sea as Main Propulsion and Damage Control Assistant in USS TOWERS (DDG-9) forward deployed in Yokosuka, Japan. During his first assignment ashore, he served as Assistant Professor of Naval Science at Naval Reserve Officer Training Corps Auburn University. During this period, he earned a Masters in Business Administration (MBA) from Auburn University. -
Following SWO Department Head School, Commander Snow reported as Chief Engineer to USS AUBREY FITCH (FFG-34), home ported in Mayport, FL. During this tour he completed two deployments in support of OPERATION's RESTORE and UPHOLD DEMOCRACY in Haiti and also completed numerous counter-narcotics deployments to the Caribbean. Additionally, AUBREY FITCH was selected to serve as part of NATO's Standing Naval Forces Atlantic and deployed to be part of the NATO Maritime Reaction Force in the North Atlantic and Mediterranean. His next assignment was as Chief Engineer in USS LEYTE GULF (CG-55) during which he completed yet another 6-month deployment to the Mediterranean Sea in support of operations in the Balkans and a non-combatant evacuation operation (NEO), OPERATION SILVER WAKE, in Albania. -
Commander Snow's next assignment was overseas in Naples, Italy where he served on the staff of NATO's Headquarters, Allied Forces Southern Europe (AFSOUTH). Assigned to the J-6 Directorate, he worked extensively on numerous communications and C2 initiatives. He attended the NATO Staff Officer School in Oberammergau, Germany and also the NATO Communications School in Latina, Italy. Commander Snow was personally selected from the HQ Staff to serve as J-6 Forward at the Kosovo Verification and Coordination Center (KVCC) during OPERATION EAGLE EYE. During this period he provided support for multinational observers, NATO forces, and the Joint Special Operations Task Force. -
Commander Snow reported next to USS BONHOMME RICHARD (LHD-6) in San Diego. During this tour, he completed a 7-month deployment in support of OPERATION ENDURING FREEDOM in Afghanistan and multinational exercises in Kenya. After completing this tour, he transferred to the Joint Forces Staff College in Norfolk, VA. As a member of the military faculty, he was responsible for teaching field-grade and senior officers of all services and multiple nations the facets of operational and strategic planning, interagency coordination and multi-national operations. He next reported to his current assignment as Executive Officer and Associate Professor of Naval Science at Naval Reserve Officer Training Corps Mid-South, which is a consortium of schools that includes the University of Memphis, University of Mississippi and cross town agreement with Christian Brothers University. He recently completed a six month Individual Augmentee assignment to CENTCOM Area of Responsibility where he served as Deputy, Director of Current Operations at NAVCENT. Commander Snow is a 2000 graduate of both the Air Command and Staff College (Joint Professional Military Education Phase I) and the Joint Forces Staff College (JPME Phase II) and was selected for designation as a Joint Specialty Officer (JSO). -
Commander Snow has been awarded 28 decorations including two Joint Meritorious Service Medals, the Joint Service Commendation Medal, 5 Navy Commendation Medals, the Joint Service Achievement Medal and the Navy Achievement Medal. He and his wife Kristine have a wonderful daughter, Kaitlyn. Back to Top |
