To begin to document the impacts of the forthcoming Interstate Highway 69 Corridor, we are taking digital photographs around the Memphis loop. We plan to record a set of photos around the loop each year, to record the stages of construction/deconstruction, and produce a visual archive. We want to use these photographs in order to help us to study the effects of I-69 on small towns, neighborhoods, businesses, and undeveloped land. In part, the visual archive will provide users with reference points to use for comparisons as the highway building and expansion continue. In the future, we hope to involve members of surrounding communities so they may participate in this process. These photographs are examples from our 2005 archive. The neighborhoods of Eads, TN are located just to the right (east) beyond the tree line. | This picture was taken facing south towards Collierville, TN. It shows an overpass being constructed and roadways in the distance. | This is the unfinished section located east of Hernando, MS. In the future it will link Hernando to Byhalia. | Facing west from the future I-55/I-69 interchange. This is the road that will link I-55 to Tunica, MS. | | Other Photograph LinksBack To Top
