The importance of this stretch of road is that it connects the U.S., Canada, and Mexico, and expands land trade among them. Much of Interstate 69 already exists; it is merely a matter of connecting or renaming highways. Other segments along the I-69 corridor will be newly created roadways, as in the Memphis area, and extending down into rural Mississippi. These will be new highways laid through what is currently farmland and small communities. When complete, the interstate will connect three different Mexican border-crossings in Texas-Laredo, McAllen and Brownsville- to the most populous provinces in Canada. In many places along its route, Interstate 69 will drastically alter the countryside, as well as have unknown impacts on various communities.
