Dr. Janann Sherman is the Olin Atkins Professor of History and chair of the History Department at the University of Memphis. She holds a Ph.D. from Rutgers University and has been at the University of Memphis since 1994. Sherman is the author or co-author of five books: The Perfect 36: Tennessee Delivers Woman Suffrage; No Place for a Woman: A Life of Senator Margaret Chase Smith; Interviews with Betty Friedan; Memphis is Black and White and Beale Street. Her current project is a biography of aviation pioneer, Phoebe Fairgrave Omlie.
