CROW Faculty Affiliate Program

Affiliation with the Center for Research on Women (CROW) entitles researchers and scholars to join a multidisciplinary group of faculty who are committed to issues of social equality and to scholarship that advances an integrative understanding of race, class, gender, and sexual orientation. 

Benefits:  CROW affiliates are eligible for the following benefits:

• access to funds for travel, as available, to interdisciplinary conferences and other professional activities related to the CROW mission;

• utilization of the CROW office infrastructure for research-related activities (e.g., duplicating, grant proposal preparation, graphic design assistance);

• mentoring and other assistance with securing external research funds;

• access to collaborative opportunities for research;

• access to community partners with which CROW has developed relationships;

• the right to apply for graduate research assistance through the Women’s Studies program; and

• potential coverage of affiliate's related professional work in the nationally distributed CROW newsletter, StandPoint.

Responsibilities:  Affiliates are expected to participate actively in one or more CROW-sponsored activity.  Some of these options include:

Research:  Participate in one of CROW's Research Interest Groups listed below, or in a separate interdisciplinary research project or community-based research partnership.

• Women’s Health

• Sexual Orientation and Gender Identification

• Women in the Arts and Humanities

• Women, Globalization and the US south

• Women and Work

Events:  Participate in the planning, coordination or evaluation of a CROW-sponsored event, such as:

• Annual Community Issues Forum

• Women’s Research Forums

• Women’s Academic Network

• Workshops, Conferences, fundraisers or other special events

Publications: Assist with the planning, research, writing or editing of a CROW publication:

• Semi-annual newsletter, StandPoint

• Annual Report

• Special reports and working papers

Special Projects: 

• Participate in Girls for Change, a project to support, mentor and empower teen girls to work for change in their schools, neighborhoods, and communities. (In collaboration with the Memphis Area Women’s Council and the UofM Women’s Studies Program.)

• Attend meetings and assist in coordination of the Women's Academic Network.

• Serve on the University-wide Committee for the Memphis Safe Campus Consortium to reduce and prevent violence against women on our campus
• Participate in coordination of the Women's Research Forum
• Participate in the North American Research and Action Network (NARAN)
