About the Ghana Study Abroad Program
The Ghana Study Abroad program is part of the African and African American Studies (AAAS) Concentration I: The Humanities (AAAS 4351.)
Students must have completed at least one year of college level study and have a minimum GPA of 2.5. Students will receive 3 credit hours in Ghanaian History and Cultures (AAAS 4351). Additional credit hours in African and African American Studies or History is possible. Instruction will be in English.
Program excursions will include visits to the following sites:
- Accra Cultural Centre
- Akosombo Dam
- Cape Coast and Elmina Slave Forts
- Manhyia Palace (Palace of Asante King) in Kumasi
- Kente-weaving Village in the Volta Region
- Aburi Botanical Gardens
- Home of W.E.B. DuBois
- George Padmore Library
- Kakum National Park
- Makola Market
- Kwame Nkrumah Mausoleum
- Wli Waterfalls
- Bead-making Village in the Eastern Region
Cost
The cost of the program is $3,500.00 (Price is subject to change).
Program Fees Include:
- University of Memphis tuition (for AAAS 4351)
- $350 application fee
- All accommadations and meals
- All site visits and excursions
- International student identity card
- Visa fee
- Medical insurance
*Program Fees do not include roundtrip airfare, vaccinations and personal expenses.
