Before you begin to write your thesis, please read the Thesis Guidelines. These guidelines will help you get started and clarify what you need to do in order to complete your thesis.
When you begin your thesis you will need to fill out a Thesis Prospectus that outlines your project and have it approved by both your advisor and your thesis director (sometimes the same person). You will also need to register for thesis hours, and this requires a separate Thesis Registration form that you fill out and take to the Departmental Registrar in PT 469.
You may register for thesis hours as many times as you need to in order to finish the thesis, but only 3 hours of thesis will count toward an M.A. degree, 6 hours toward an M.F.A. degree, and 9 hours toward a Ph.D. degree. Note, however, that students who need full-time status (in order to quailify to be a Teaching Assistant) can fulfill this requirement by signing up for 6 hours of thesis (instead of signing up for 12 hours of coursework or coursework plus thesis hours).
