Academic Summary
Barbara Ching does research in cultural studies, particularly on the distinctions between high and low culture and rustic and urban culture. Most recently, she has written about country music; her forthcoming research asks what we mean when we use the term "Americana." She is also developing a study of the discourse of country rock and southern rock. Dr. Ching is also Director of The Marcus W. Orr Center for the Humanities at The University of Memphis, which supports lecture series and other special events that encourage interdisciplinary research and teaching.
